Espadrille Wedges

I feel freaking beautiful in these shoes.  What is it about a great pair of shoes that makes you feel fantastic.  What’s even better is that I made these shoes.  I also didn’t realize how great they would look with this sleeveless Leschi I made a few months go.  Perfect casual yet put together look.

When Melissa of A Happy Stitch reached out to me about participating in a blog tour for her Espadrille kits I immediately said yes… in my head.  Turns out I never emailed her, but thankfully she followed up so I could participate in this great make.

Remix the Stitch Contest

Four years ago, almost to the date, I released my first sewing pattern.  I had no idea where this business would take me but I have to say it has far exceeded my expectations.

What started as one pattern has grown to a collection of 15 sewing patterns, an online course, and now teaching sewing workshops.  I have also travelled to teach at Craftcation in Ventura, Ca and been featured in and written articles for Sew News Magazine.  None of this would be possible without all of you!  So let’s celebrate with a contest/giveaway…

View Ridge Dress

I probably say this every time I sew up a remix of one of my patterns, but I love taking a pattern and finding a way to make something new.  Then I get to share it here with you so you can see yet another way to use that pattern.  Today I am sharing a View Ridge Dress, and it is the perfect summer outfit.

Sewing Workshops in Seattle

My business has always taken more of a DIY or non-traditional approach to things.  Not only do I think that is my personality but it also comes from a place of making business decisions based on me and not what others are doing.  That’s not to say what others are doing is wrong, it’s just not always right for me.  I am sure if you were to sit in a room with my mom and sisters they would tell you everything about that statement is how I live my life and not just how I run my business.  So they especially will not be surprised I am putting myself out there with my newest idea.

Seeing a new pattern on all different shapes and sizes is the most important part of a pattern release, and something I really look forward to sharing every time.  I have had a great time showing you all my three versions of Magnuson, but today I get to share the amazing versions my testers sewed up.

Kristin went very classic in the colour fabric she chose for her vest.  I love how she styled it differently with the bold black and white striped tee and leggings.

Choosing Fabric for Your Magnuson Vest

If you haven’t noticed by now, I love to sew my patterns in as many different fabrics as possible.  No one wants to buy a pattern that is limited to one fabric, or at least I definitely do not.  But what I also want to show is that you will get a different look depending on the fabric you choose.  Magnuson is the perfect example of this which you will see in the 3 versions I sewed.  So if you are unsure of whether Magnuson is even your style or if you aren’t sure which fabric to use, let me help you choose fabric for your Magnuson vest.

Magnuson Pattern Release

I couldn’t be more excited to share with you my newest pattern, Magnuson.  The evolution of this pattern over the last two years has been fun as the designer to watch happen.  What started out as a utility/military inspired jacket has turned into a more modern take in vest form.  So many of the original elements are still there with so many new and fun details.

Magnuson has a button placket, stand collar, side slits and oversized pockets, not to mention the gathered waist.  So many utility or military inspired vests have the waistband casing on the outside of the jacket giving it a very casual look.  I wanted the ability to cinch in the waist but not have the ties hanging down, so inside the waistband went.

Every sewing pattern is just a starting place for all of the things you can do with it. The Leschi blouse pattern has the lines that are perfect for a sleeveless dress. Just a couple changes and you are left with a completely new look.

Sleeveless Leschi Dress

Spring is here and I can finally share with you the sleeveless Leschi dress I made a few weeks ago.  I had been planning a sleeveless version since I released the pattern in October, so I thought why not go for not only sleeveless but also a dress.  This is the ultimate spring/summer dress!

The fabric I chose really chose me while I was working the Style Maker Fabrics booth at Sew Expo last month, I was the perfect weight and drape for my vision.  Unfortunately they are all sold out, but check out these other rayons you can choose from, I especially love this floral rayon challis.

I am known to make statements like “… saved my life” or “my life is completely changed by …”  They may seem dramatic but in those moments I feel it so deeply that I truly believe whatever it is I am talking about was just as intense as it sounds.  So when you read the next sentence know that I mean it deep down in my heart, I am not just being dramatic.
