Sewing for Me – Julia Cardigan

When Haley of Welcome to the Mouse House released The Julia Cardigan at the beginning of December I snatched it up that day.  I knew it needed to be a part of my wardrobe in all of the different options.

As usual life got busy and I never got around to making one for myself.  I finally remedied that last week and the finished product was just as amazing as I knew it would be back in December when I bought the pattern.  How is it possible that I waited this long to actually sit down and sew the pattern that ended up taking less than an hour to do from start to finish.

I would consider myself a bit of a fabric hoarder and I don’t think I am alone in that admission.  The upside of a large inventory of fabrics is that for every purchase of a pattern you have dozens of fabric options available to you.  This great tie dye jersey from Girl Charlee was just screaming to be made into a great lightweight cardigan that works for all seasons here in Seattle.  I can already picture it paired with some white shorts and sandals this summer.  There is nothing better than such a versatile piece in your closet.

Haley did such a great job on this pattern, the instructions are easy to follow and are perfect for all levels of sewing.  I love that there are multiple sleeve lengths as well as finishing options.  I decided to do the long sleeve fold over options.  I wanted simplicity for my first version and to be honest I am still a little scared to try a rolled hem on my serger.  I know it can’t possibly be that hard but still haven’t actually sat down to try it.  For my next version I am going to bite the bullet and do the rolled hem version.

If you don’t have this pattern yet you definitely need to add it to your collections and if you are like me and have it but never get around to making it, move it to the top of your list because it is a great pattern to work with.

Make sure to check out Haley’s shop today because the Caroline Women’s Dress is being released this afternoon.  There are so many amazing versions that her testers sewed up and as usually I will be snatching it up when it is released.
