Kid’s Clothes Week – Day 1

If I had known it would be so much fun I would have participated in Kids Clothes Week so much sooner.  As I headed off to preschool with my oldest this morning all I could think about it would be a few hours before I could get started on my sewing for the day.  Once school was over I convinced the kiddos to play for a bit so I could make my first project of the week, the Sleepy Robe by Melly Sews.  Let me just start by saying what a great pattern this is.  Not only did she offer this pattern up to everyone for free, score!, but it is a quick and easy sew.  Start to finish it probably took me about an hour, but I know that is mostly because it was the first time I had done the pattern.

I mentioned in my previous post that I rarely make clothes for my son, whether it is a lack of patterns in my stash for boys or the fact that the girls dresses are just so cute, I am not sure but I wanted to make an effort this week to make some things for Ben.  With that said I went ahead and found a super cute flannel in my stash, dark blue with white bicycles on it, and made Ben a robe.

I followed the pattern as written but then thought it might be fun to have contrast stitching on the sleeves and along the bottom so I just used my serger to finish off the edges.  I didn’t get a chance to try it on him since he was napping but I hope to wrangle him tomorrow and have him give it a try.  Because the smallest was 18 months and Benny is a very little 15 month old it is probably going to be huge on him but that should get him through the winter.  Considering how cold our house is it will come in handy.

Since the first robe was such a breeze I went ahead and sewed up the robe I had cut out for Sophie.  She is the one who has actually been asking for a robe so I knew she would be pretty excited to have me make her one.  Just like the first it was super quick and easy and as to be expected it took me about half as long to complete this one as it did the first.

Unfortunately both kiddos were sleeping until nearly 6!  So I wasn’t able to get pictures of them in the robes but I hope to corner them tomorrow to get a few pictures of them modelling the robes.

Now since making these and seeing just how fun and easy they are I am considering selling them in my shop, the question is would people even be interested.  I would love to hear from you.

Check back tomorrow I am sewing up the Explorer Skirt by Hey There Threads.  Don’t forget to follow along on twitter and instagram.
