Pattern Test – Janey Jump Around

As I am working my way through my patterns to test them out and see which ones I like and which ones are not going to be a part of my shop, I came across one of the newest patterns by Amy of Peek-a-boo Pattern Shop.

Let me just say that she has done it again and released another amazing free pattern.  She has so many great patterns available but I love that she creates a new pattern every year to offer free to all of her fans.  All you have to do is subscribe to her newsletter and you can download the pattern.  Seriously, go check it out you will not be disappointed with the quality of pattern she is offering.

Now back to this great dress.

Sophie has been asking for a new dress forever.  The only requirement is that it is pink because she is seriously obsessed with pink right now.  I was happy to oblige because I have been looking for a use for the 4 yards of pink cotton lycra I purchased awhile ago.

It was a really quick sew and such a fun everyday casual dress.  I went ahead and made a 3T hoping that Sophie will be able to use it through next summer.  I know sounds crazy right but she is a skinny mini and her clothes last forever.  I can already see this cute dress in the winter with cable knit tights and some boots with a cozy cardigan over it.  Sophie is most definitely better dressed than her momma.

I decided to go ahead and make another one.  I participated in a sewing swap a few months ago through Amy at Peek-a-book Patterns and unfortunately some of the people never sent outfits.  I volunteered to make an outfit for someone who didn’t get a package and thought this dress would be perfect for the size 5 girl I was sewing for.  I decided to go with more of a colour block look and I am really happy with the end result.

The grey knit is so soft, I wanted to make one for myself as well.

I noticed on the first dress that it was a little droopy where the buttons attached so when topstitching I went ahead and sewed the two front layers together.  Not only did it end up with a fun detail but it kept from drooping.  The sleeve and bottom hems all got a fun decorative stitch I found on my sewing machine.

Had I not attached pieces together completely wrong and then discovered it half way through the dress it would have been an easy sew like the first.  Another reason why it is better to take your time and do it right the first time than to end up taking all the seams out and starting again.

I will definitely be making this dress again.  I am looking forward to trying different combinations of knits.
