Fabric Friday – La Mercerie

Happy Friday Everyone!!  Today I am back for another Fabric Friday with Jess, a fellow Seattleite, who is killing it as an independent online fabric store.  Jess runs La Mercerie, “a modern haberdashery for today’s crafters, makers and artisans. We offer a curated selection of fabrics, yarns, patterns and notions to help you build a handmade wardrobe.”  The fabrics that Jess picks are truly some of the best quality I have ever felt, it was hard to only pick three of my favourites.

Let me rewind for a minute because Jess is actually a former tester for me.  I ‘met’ her when she tested my Montlake tee, but we still haven’t met in person.  Why is it that you can be surrounded by amazing makers but never seem to get together.  I have a goal to remedy that very soon.  If you are reading this Jess, let’s do coffee soon!

Okay, lets get back to the fabric because there are some pretty fantastic finds in her current collection.

The first fabric that caught my attention was this Midnight Rosette Scuba Knit.  Now I have to be honest and say that I have never actually worked with scuba knit and it scares me a bit, but from all the blogs I have read about it, the fabric is actually great to work with.

The colours are just so vibrant and the flowers are just striking.  I was thinking originally of the Lodo Dress by True Bias but then I remembered the Charleston Dress by Hey June and knew that would be the perfect combination for me.  I have a fancy shmancy elementary school auction in March and I think this dress would be amazing for that evening.

Ever since Heather Lou of Closet Case Patterns posted on instagram some Pendleton Wool that she wanted to make a coat out of I couldn’t get the bold patterned coat out of my head.  While I would love to splurge on some Pendleton that is a bit out of my price range so when I saw this Ghana Wool Coating I knew it would make an amazing Sapporo Coat by Papercut Patterns.

The colours of this fabric are classic while still being interesting and combined with the cozy factor of the pattern I would definitely get a bunch of wear out of it.  Jess just recently started carrying wool and I have to say, the fabrics she picked are a great start to this new substrate.

The final fabric for today is this Heavyweight Activewear Jersey in the heathered blue colour.  I am always on the look out for nice activewear fabric to try making my own leggings.  This whole work at home life has me wearing my comfy clothes more often than not and I would love some yoga pants that don’t ride down in the back.  I have heard all good things about the Stride Athletic Tights from Greenstyle Creations and they come in a really wide range of sizes so I am sure to have what I need to get a great fitting pair of leggings.

It has been really fun to watch Jess and La Mercerie grow since opening and I know she is going to continue to stock amazing fabrics.  I was happy to see that in addition to the new wool fabrics she is also carrying some denim.  If you want to keep up with all the new fabrics that Jess is carrying you can subscribe in the footer of her website.

I will be taking a couple weeks off of Fabric Friday while I finalize my new pattern, but watch in November for new Fabric Fridays.  In the meantime catch up with all my previous Fabric Friday posts here.
