30 Days of Sundresses – Carkeek Dress

I am so excited to be joining Melissa of Melly Sews for her 5th Annual 30 Days of Sundresses.  This series is always so much fun to follow along with because you never know what everyone is going to share.

With the temperatures rising here in Seattle I knew this was the perfect opportunity to draft a relaxed fit dress that could be worn dressed up or casual.  I am all about relaxed and flowy so a dolman style shift dress seemed right up my alley.  It was from these ideas that I came up with my newest pattern, Carkeek, which is also a free pattern for all of you!

I am most definitely a broken record when it comes to the tester roundup for my patterns.  I am always so lucky to get such a great group of ladies helping me test my patterns.  So many of them keep coming back to help me so I guess that means I am doing something right.  I have made so many friends through this process and many of whom I can email with pattern questions because I know I can count on them to give me the feedback I need and want.

View Ridge Pattern

Introducing the newest pattern to my collection, View Ridge!

This top is the perfect example of when you take your inspiration and make it your own.  As a pattern designer it is easy to get lost in all the possibilities but I had a pretty clear vision of what I wanted out of this top and the final pattern is that plus more.

The pattern features 3 views for a variety of lengths and finishes.  You can sew it with or without ruffles and long or cropped length.  All versions have the hi-lo hem which makes it great when pairing with pants, shorts or skirts.

Wedgwood Tester Roundup

I pretty much start every tester roundup saying the same exact thing, I have the best bunch of pattern testers around.  This amazing group of ladies make every single pattern I create so much better and I love working with new to me sewists with each round of testing.  My favourite part of a pattern release is definitely this post, so without further ado I am sharing with you the Wedgwood tester roundup!  Make sure to click over to the shop and grab your copy of the skirt while it is still marked down.

Wedgwood Skirt Pattern

The Wedgwood skirt pattern is ready for all you lovely ladies.

Every girl needs a pleated skirt in their wardrobe, something I didn’t realize until I started designing this pattern.  You see I wasn’t really a skirt wearing girl, sure I wore them occasionally but I just always found something I preferred to wear instead.  But once I started sewing and resewing the Wedgwood skirt pattern I realized just how much I enjoy the versatility of a high waisted skirt.  You can dress it up with heels and a silk shirt or keep it casual with a tee shirt and converse.  I am already dreaming of wearing one of these in the summer with a Greenwood tank and my favourite Birkenstocks.

Montlake Tester Roundup

My favourite part of releasing a new pattern is sharing with everyone what my testers sewed up, and the ladies that I worked with this round were amazing.  You know you have struck gold with testers when they are equal parts constructive and encouraging.  Testing is such a collaborative effort for me so I truly value all of them and the impact they have had on the final Montlake pattern.  Enjoy the Montlake Tester Roundup!

Heidi of Handmade Frenzy used a fabric that has been in her stash waiting for the perfect project.  I love the white with the subtle texture.  Read all about here version here.

Choosing Fabric for the Montlake Tee Sewing Pattern

Montlake Tee Fabric Options

Choosing fabric for a pattern is my favourite part of sewing.  I love walking the aisles of a fabric store feeling and stretching the fabrics to see how they will behave with the pattern.  When designing my new pattern, Montlake I realized very quickly that depending on the fabric chosen the final tee would have a different look.  The more stretch in a fabric leads to a deeper scoop neck and relaxed fit.  For those fabrics that have only slight stretch it is a more fitted tee.  All the looks are great, it’s just a matter of what kind of mood you are in when sewing up your Montlake.

Montlake Tee Pattern

After what feels like a marathon of pattern testing with the greatest bunch of ladies around I am happy to be here today sharing my newest sewing pattern with all of you, Montlake.

This tee is everything you would want out of a new closet staple.  With clean lines and a great shape you can view it as a blank canvas to play around with different knits.  One of my testers couldn’t have put it better when she described this pattern to me, simple fashion.  Sometimes we just need some simple fashion in our lives and the Montlake tee is that.

I am so excited to be joining Swhetty Betties Aspiring Designers Challenge again.  These challenges are just what I need to get my butt in gear and release my pattern.  It’s easy to have a pattern sit on your computer just waiting for a few things, trust me I have at least 3 patterns in various stages of completion on my computer right now.  The pattern I am releasing today, Greenwood, is the first pattern in my new collection Straight Stitch Basics.  This is the most ‘me’ pattern I have made to date and I am really quite excited about sharing it with all of you.
